Mrs. R. Taylor of Coyote street
is preparing to entertain with a Hallawe’en party Saturday afternoon in
honor of the birthday of her little
daughter, Nedra Taylor, Ten little
guests have been invited. Artistic
decorations and gay little Hallowe’en motifs will be used in profusion
to add to the happy affair.

Mrs. C. C. Clemo of Gold Flat entertained the Gold Flat Thursday
Club most delightfully yesterday afternoon. After the business session
several houfs were spent in social
converse and faney work. Hallowe’en decorations were used throughout the cosy rooms and on the table.
The centerpiece on “the prettily arranged table was a large pumpkin
eut so as to represent the usual large
grinning face.”
Forty were present last Thursday

their husbands at a.delicious dinner and jolly party in Seaman's
lodge in Pioneer Park.

A visiting Texas oil execttive of
Shanghai, China was so favorably
impressed by the activities and the
scenery in Nevada county that he
expressed a hope of coming to make
his home here in later years. The oil
executive was Ernest Clements, a
wisitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Deeter this, week, and cou’ gin of Mrs. Deeter. Mr. Clements and
his Wife had not seen the Deeters
for years and stopped here to make
their visit en route to San Francisco from whence they will sail home
to Shanghai.

J. B. Powell, who fell at the
Spanish Mine Monday, is recovering
at the Nevada City Sanitarium from
his injuries. He was severely bruised when breaking ore in a chute.
The rock started moving and jammed him against the wall partially
covering him. Dr. B. W. Hummelt
made an X-ray examination. and
found no bones broken.
Ernest Brisebill, Jr., is suffering
from a broken arm, which will keep
him from work for several weeks. He
was up on a ladder that slipped Ietting him fall. Both bones were broken in his right arm above the wrist.

John Bardill, operator of the Defender mine at Pine Grove, Amador

operated properties in this district
before going to Amador county.
Charles F. Ayer and Bill Allen
came up from Smartsville yesterday
to spend several hours here on business. Mr. Ayer is one of a group interested in. the Interstate Land
Holding company of Boston. Mr. Allen is manager for the company in
this. section and the local properties
comprise 45,000 acres in Yuba county near Smartsville, land in Scoots
Flat and the Manzanita Diggings,
northeast of this city.
Roy Deeter, whose eyes were Sseriously injured by an exploding carbide lamp, Wednesday
while at work as shift boss at the
Ragon mine, is in the Jones Memorial hospital for treatment. Deeter
was holding the lamp when it exploded without warning. .
Lawrence Carter, contractor of
this city has been about on a crutch
for several days, having: received a
sprained ankle while at work.
Rev. J. P. O’Reilly was a Sacramento visitor Wednesday atteneding
a Day of Prayer for Peace, service
held by a group of priests. He met
Father J. J. McGary a former resident of this district, now of Maxwell. Father O’Reilly spent last week

Alleghany and several other towns

The first Welt Baby Clinic, sponsored by the Washington Grammar
School P. T. A., was held in the
Methodist church parlors yesterday
from 9 to 4 o’clock and = 35 preschool age children were examined
under Dr. Emmaline Banks. She
was assisted by Mrs. William C. Perry, trained nurse; Mrs. Isabel Hefelfinger, county health nurse; Mrs.
W. E.Young and Mrs. J. P. Muscardini.
These clinics will be held once
each month free of charge, the mothers receiving advice and instructions
as to care of babies. The children
from tiny ‘infants to children too
young to enter school are examined,
weighed, and food, and habits: suggested.
The P. T. A. is quite pleased with
the attendance of mothers, babes
and children. There were English,
Italian, Austrian, Chinese and Indian children in the group, one tiny
three months old Idian boy being
carried in a papoose basket by his
mother, Mrs. Albert Johnson.
Mrs. Hefelfinger states she-wants
all mothers to feel free to bring

Mrs. Mary Guenther revered pioneer of Boulder street celebrated
her 87th birthday yesterday, family
members and friends calling to wish
her many happy returns of the day.
Her. parents, the late Mr. and
Mrs. H. Schneider came to Nevada
City from Missouri in January 1856.

built a shop and apartment where
