Procuring tropical fruit to satisfy 153 monkeys upon arrival is only
. a small part of what Francisco calls
his monkey business. From Manila
he directed the collection of the Maeacus type monkeys the construction
of special cages to house the monkeys
until the number was large enough
to make the first shipment, the paytrade goods rather than
money to the natives who made the
capture and the final shipment to
this country. He arrived here in San
Francisco a few days in advance of
this first shipment to arrange for
their safe transfer to the inetitutions for ‘which they were collected.
Francisco igs a long time Manila
resident and business man who was
by the Japanese for three years
in San Tomas prison camp with his
family\ His association with Connell
Secthunk. Company and the WilburEllis Company of Manila brought
him the monked assignment the first
part of which is completed today.
Plang for additional shipments of
monkeys to this country are indefin-:
ite but collections in the Philippines are continuing and a census of the
needed type of monkeys has been
taken. Institutions which relied on
monkeys from Java and Burma before the war are now hoping to receive thousands of the Macacus monkeys to continue their fight against
infantile paralysis.
