The current budget . ’ is $803,077.30 over the previous . record budget of $2,527,037.05 of ! 1948-49. A special audit of the county is budgeted at a 50 percent boost to $1, 500 for the current year, ‘The county treasurer and tax collector has a $328 boost in the current budget. The assessor’s office calls for a boost of $4,800, the major part of . ) which is for the reappraisal program to be started in October to place the county on a continuing ‘basis. A complete analysis of the reappraisal program appears in another column of this edition. The supervisors approved $10,000 to start the program on its way. There is a $7,500 reduction for plat maps over last year, but there are large increases in -the budget to take care of the purchase of office equipment and supplies to start the new system 4 the assessor’s office. Of the record breaking budget, $2,130,141.83 is required to operate the county government, while $1,199,972.62 will be used in the administration of special districts, including school districts. An estimated $961,446.64 is required to be raised. by property taxes, of which $24,740 will be raised on unsecured rolls. . The 1950 assessed valuation of Nevada county is $25,405,070, of which $15,488,480 is locally .assessed. Exemptions from welfare and church organizations and veterans total $1,088,370 leaving a valuation of $24,316,700 from which to assess taxes. Nevada county had a balance of $287,275.37 on hand at the start of the fiscal year and expects $1,361,647 income from other than taxes. The breakdown shows: property tax levies of former years, $3,145; subventions and grants, $1,288,982; permits;.$450; fines and penalties, $17,300; privileges, $1,500; rents, $250; interest, $3,000; fees, $12,550; special services, $29,870; miscellaneous, $4, 200; inter-governmental service, $400. State and federal gake include: U. S. Forest Reserve apportionment, $3,000; motor vehicle fuel tax, $193;483; motor vehicle in lieu tax, $59,559; state and federal grants for welfare assistance, $922,699; tuberculosis control subsidy, $11,388; alcoholic beverages taxes, $18,153; federal welfare administration subsidy, $1,000; county service officer, 1$4,500; veterans buildings, $29,700; detention home, $17,000; agricultural commissioner, $3,000; special aviation fund, $500; special road improvement, $25,000. The supervisors estimated $15,000 as.revenue from traffic fines, 20,000.00: 20,000.00 . 47,000.00 52,000.00 1,081,413.88 1,199,972.52 A boost of $540 is registered in the district attorney's depart. : ment. The supervisors budgeted $250 for the county planning commission principally to be used for inspection expense. Last year the commission spent no money. A $625 fund for advertising for bids accounted for a major part of the increase for the county purchasing agent. The approaching general election expense balances the primary election of June Which was part of last year’s budget but is reduced approximately $7,500 — the cost of last fall’s special election. Maintenance of the courthouse building is almost the same as last year although lower. Lights in the offices of the clerk and treasurer, a fire escape, and the _painting and cleaning of the building are balanced by the furnace, welfare office addition, air conditioning in the sheriff’s office, and completion of the road commissioner’s office that was accomplished last year. The sheriff’s office shows little change over last year. The general increase in most items is balanced by new equipment that was installed last year. There is no fund budgeted for new installations during the current fiscal year. Principal reason of the lower budget figures in the road department is accounted for by the unavailability of state funds at the time of fixing the budget. County superivsors cannot budget anticipated subventions and grants. When state funds are received they are transferred to the road department. with Louis Hayward and Jane Wyatt \ FIRE TRUCK DRIVER Applications for position of Fire Truck Driver for the Nevada City Fire Department and general maintenance for city hall and equipment shop will be received for consideration by the Board of Fire Delegates at a meeting of the said Board to be held commencing at 8 P.
