Engelbright @poke to the assembly at the Auburn Aigh school on the “Constitution of Today.” Gongressman and Mrs. Engelbright plan to leave early next week on a tour of the northern part of the district. He also plans to visit Inyo and Mono counties in the southern part of the district before returning to his duties at congress. These two counties were added last spring to the congressman's already large d‘strict and while the population of these two counties are very small they are none the less impcrtant to the congressman and will the same consideration and representation as the more thickly populated -eounties. 0. After installing an additional pump of 500 gallons per minute capacity and all other equipment required for expeditious and economical op‘erations, Mr. Lindberg has put three shifts of miners to work deepening the two-compartment vertical shaft on the Douglar Flat property. This shaft revealed the bedrock at a depth of 98 feet. Pay gravel was simultaneously found by the previous operators, who, finding the bedrock dipping to the west on a 45-degree angle, continued the shaft down to the 129-foot point. At that depth the bedrock was found to be still dipping sharply and a heavy flow of water was encountered. The present operators are continuing the shaft down from the 129foot point an additional. 65. feet, which will give the bore a total vertical depth of 194 feet from the surface. When the new objective point is reached, a crosscut, it is stated, will be extended to determine the dip of the bedrock at that horizon. If found favorable for lateral exploration, a drift will be advanced 750 feet northeasterly on bedrock the adjoining Baldhead mine, which, giously in placer gold nearly a half century ago. A pump of 350 gallons capacity on the 129-foot level of the shaft is at present lifting 325 gallons of water a minute to the surface, it is stated. The 500-gallon pump has: been placed in position for emergency us and to keep the ‘shaft free of water during current sinking operations. In addition to its complete mining equipment, the property has a gravel washing mill capable of handling from 240 to 350 tons daily. All equipment is electrically operated.
