Prior to Monte’s taking the witness stand, a long statement by each of the brothers, taken in the sheriff’s office on their arrival from Colorado, was placed in evidence by District Attorney Vernon Stoll. Throueh this statement, Attorney Armstronms selected a number of -qguotations asking the witness if he had made them. The district attorney objected on the ground that all the statements selected were all “‘self-servine’’, that is serving to emphasize the testimony favorable to the defemdants. It required so long _ to read through the manuscript and -_ pick out quotations for confirmation, that Judge Tuttle finally detorney Armstrong to mark for quesshow} ° Industria: tioning such parts of the manuscript as he desired testimony upon, so that the trial might proceed with out delay.
