Lyons and two grandsons, of Oakspent Friday in town visiting old acquaintances and friends. Mrs. Bernard and Mrs. Lyons were formerly the Misses Orilla and Lucy Crawl. Mrs. Kerr ahs rented her Coffee treat the Sunday school children after church. Church services are held at three o’clock every second and fourth Sundays.of the month. Sunday school meets every Sunday at two o’clock. On Wednesday of last month Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Burnett, Mr. Ingols and Miss Annie Wrenman spent the day in Nevada City and Grass Valley. Herman Cook, public administrator of Sacramento, his mother and sister, Mrs. Louise Johnson and Mrs. Coolidge, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Green one day last week. Joe Fogarty of Hamilton is spending some time here visiting relatives. Last Saturday Mrs. Kern Fogarty, her mother, Mrs. Dahlberg and Joe Fogarty were Nevada City visitors. The Nevada City high school chartered the San Juan bus to take the members of the new football team to Auburn Saturday. F. M. Harris, driver of the bus, returned all smiles as he announced, ‘“‘we beat ‘em!” Frank: Winecki, grandson of Mrs. Huckins, was recently visiting relatives in San Juan and Downieville. Mr. Winecke is from the ‘aviation field of Sacramento and was accompanied by a friend, also an aviator. While here they went hunting and were successful, each shooting two deer. ees : Tom Graham, of Oakland, who is a “former resident of Sweetland, is camping for the hunting season among the pines near his old home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Conner were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Burnett. Frank Powell, who made quite an extended stay in Sweetland, has returned to his home in Sacramento. Mrs. C. J. Lyser of the San Juan’ mine, entertained at luncheon Tuesday . Misses Caroline and Annie Wienman and Mrs. F. M. Harris. The Misses Wienman recalled the time when their brother-in-law, Chas. Collins, had grani on the hills near the mine. This is difficult to realize at presetn, when one looks at the tall pines, fir and cedar and wide spreading oaks and madrones. A number of new people have mvoed into town this fall. Among them are Mr. and Mrs. Danforth of Oakland, who are to live in the new home built for Mr. Huckins by Mr. Danforth and located in the edge of the oaks across the road from the Mr. and Mrs. McSuinn and family have moved into George Cook’s house. Mr. Cook is living in Sweetland. Mr. and Mrs, Palmer and family are living in one of the Huckins cottages. : Mr. and Mrs. Frances Proom and little daughter Grace are living in the home of the late Prof. , Davis. Mr. Proom has purchased this property, é Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson and family have moved onto the Stage ranch. Mrs. &.-S. Dare. of. Freemans Crossing visited Mrs. Wodell over Sunday. FRENCH CORRAL FRENCH CORRAL, Sept. 27.— Since Sunday evening the weather has been much cooler and we are feeling quite comfortable. She returned to her home Sunday morning. Mrs. J. W. Culver accompanied her as far as Pleasant Valley. She gives good reports of her Grass Valley school. . Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Flynn of Nevada City were Friday visitors. They report that Mr. Flynn’s brother, Bill Campbell of Nevada City, has been removed to his home from the Jones Memorial hospital. Mr. Campbell has been in poor health for the past year and recently underwent an operation for removal of gall stones. Due to ‘his advanced age his relatives and friends feared the outcome. A meeting of Columbia Parlor No. 70, N. D. G. W., was held Friday evening. On account of scattered membership this was the first meeting of the term. Mr. and Mrs. L. EB. Ingoldsly of Lindsey were Saturday visitors. Mr. Ingoldsly is in the nursery business in Lindsay and while on a business trip to Newcastle and Nevada City dropepd i nat French Corral. Mrs. Ingoldsly is a former resident of French Corral. This was her first return visit to French Corral. Jack Wolff of Grass Valley was a Saturday visitor. The people of a Saturday visitor. Mr. Wolff is very popular in French Corral. In his bulletins hé has brought out very itneresting facts about the Yuba river country. Benton Wilcoxon of Drum was a Saturday~ visitor. e : Rev. Father O’Reilly held services at Birechville Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. May of Sacramento were Sunday visitors. They were accompanied by friends from that city, Misses Margaret and Madeline McGirk and Mr. Deponia. Mr. and Mrs. May own property in this “place” and “have resided” here™ for the past three years and expect to return again. Their home in Biirchville was destroyed by fire. Mrs. J.-K. Culver went to Pleasant Valley Sunday and from there went to Auburn with her son, Burton Wilcoxon and wife. Miss Frances Moulton of Sacramento spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. E. week on the San Juan ridge. Tom is a native of Sweetland and was one of the noted deer hunters in his time. He still enjoys a deer hunt and a visit to the old home town. F. S. Holt, formerly of Louisjana, now stationed at the San Pedro naval base, is visiting his cousins Mrs. Rosa Gregg and Mrs. R. L. Capps, while the fleet is in San Francisco. Holt is on the U. 8S. 8. Colorado and this is his first trip into the interior of California and he says that Grass Valley ahd Nevada City are two of the finest towns for their size he has seen on either coast. Mr. Cobb of Piedmont who has been mining on the diggings through most of the summer has had his brother from Los Angeles visiting him.
