FRIDAY, SEPT. 4, 1931 THE NEVADA CITY NUGGET, CALIFORNIA
REQUIRE SERIAL NUMBER
AND NO CYLINDERS OF CAR
Motorists and motor car dealers
of California were advised in a
bulletin issued by Russell Bevans,
acting registrar of motor vehicles,
that the serial number of the car
and number of cylinders will hereafter be reqiured on all applications
for-license renéwal and transfers of
second hand cars or shins of
cars.
This information will be requir-}
ed Bevans said, in order to comply
wig the new provisions of Sections
d 41 of the Motor Vehicle Act
effective August 14th.
New certificate forms for 1932
will have spaces in which this information will be inserted.
As licenses are renewed and
transfers made on the old certificates which do not. have these
spaces it will be necessary for the
motorists to write in the informacate of registration. The procedure
was outlined as follows by Bevans:
1. In applying for renewal the
motorist should write in the number of cylinders after the line
“‘Make” on the old certificate. The
serial number should be written in
below the line “Date Issued.”
2. The same procedure should
‘be followed in applying for a transfer except that the information;
should be written on the pink instead of the white certificate. As in
the case of renewal, the number of
eylinders should appear after the
line ‘‘Make” and the serial number!
after the line “Date Issued.”
3. The number of cylinders and
the serial number will be required
from the dealer when application
is made to register a new car..
‘We respectfully urge the cooperation of the public in giving us
this information,” Bevans said. “It
will be only a few months until we
will start our annual renewal season and it is vital that we secure
the serial number and number of
cylinders. of --every—-car registered.”
FOREST FIRES SPUR
INCENDIARY REWARD
Increasing evidence that many
recent forest fires have been deliberately set has been received by the
Stop Forest Fires Committee of
California, according to a statement
by E. B. DeGolia, a member of the
Committee and a director of the
California State Automobile Asso-!
ciation. In making the statement, .
DeGolia drew attention to the penalties provided by state and federal
laws for the offense of maliciously
setting a field or forsst fire.
Under the state law this type of
incendiarism is punishable by a fine
of $500 or six months imprisonment
or both. The federal law fixes a
maximum fine of $5,000 or two
years imprisonment, or both, for
setting a fire on government land
within the area of a National Park.”
M. B. Pratt, State Forester and
chairman of the Stop Forest Fires
Committee, declared at a recent
meeting of the organization that
the incendiary fire situation is particularly serious in the northern
part of California. He stated that
the present forest fire season is one
of the worst the state has experienced in years, and urged. that
vigorous action be taken to: curb
the number of incendiary fires.
The California Fire Emergency
Committee, consisting of various
the
efforts of a number of civic groups
and organized motorists, has Sostad .
a reward of $100 for information
of any person who deliberately sets
fires in field or forest areas.
The Stop Forest Fires Committee
has issued an appeal ‘to motorists
and campers urging them to remember that September present an
unusually great° fire hazard owing
to the dry and inflammable conation of forest and brush growths.
County, state and _ federal laws
place restrictions on smoking in
jnost of the mountain regions, exizept in certain designated places.
Campfire permits are required in
the National Forests. These may be
obtained at any office of the California State . Automobile Association.
