Ross and Irene Varley gave an afternoon of music and poetry at the Wyethia Club, Truckee. Mr. Ross gave a lecture on the course of poetry from Chaueer to Valery, and recitations with musical’ commentary by Miss Varley on.modern Irish, English and American poets, as well as Baudelaire and Shakesperian group. The afternoon was one which afforded rare pleasure because of the unusual talent of Mr. Ross in the reading of the beautiful poetry and because of the artistry shown by Miss Varley in her own exceedingly lovely musical ‘compesitions written to enhance the poetry. Cy Sofge and Al Hertzer, of the state printing office force at Sacramento were visitors ‘at The Nugget office Monday. Mr. Sofge has been machinist at the state office for about twenty years. Picks and shovels will fly and hammer anr saw will resound. when the general committee for the Peardale Rodeo on September 25th, takes hold of the big job of preparation. There is plenty of work to be done, the committee announced, and they ask the‘ cooperation of the ranchers and farmers. residing in that section as well as_ volunteer helpers from this city. On Sunday the various corrals for the holding of the big annual bucking broncho show will be construcred. This entails considerable work and a big crew of helpers is necessary. Plans for the coming rodeo celebration are progressing at a good pace and the Peardale residents have expressed the belief that this year’s annual. showing of ' riding, roping and cattleman tricks will outshine any of the shows of previous years. The big -show will start on the night of Saturday, September 24, with a Rodeo dance at Twin Cities Pleasure Hall. In the line-up of events for the next day will be a string of hard riding brones of the well known Barnaby’s bucking broneos.—Morning Union. Camptonville Benefit Dance Attended by Large Crowd CAMPTONVILLE, ‘Sept. 1.—The benefit dance for the Camptonville Union School District took place Saturday evening in the local Masonic Hall. The affair was a benefit dance and was largely attended by people from the surrounding mountain towns. Music was furnished by Eddie Meltz and his well known and popular orchestra from Auburn and a fine supper was served at midnight. The affair netted $90.72 which went to the school district. Miss Flora Peterson returned last Thursday evening from a two weeks vacation trip to the Echo Lake district in El Dorado county, for another w ’s visit with her sister, Mrs. Elsie’ itioughby, and family.
