Cow Herd Caution Told “Cow and feeder cattle prices will likely decline more next year than fed cattle prices. They'll likely drop ,still further in 1961." Extension Economist Al Carpenter of the University suggests caution inconsidering the purchase of young female beef animals for adding to beef cow herds. M ost competent analysts believe the peak in cattle prices for this present cycle has passed. Now is a good time for producers to look over their herds critically and give attention to profits based . onefficient operations rather Pictured above is the gayly decorated tree which greeted the guests at the Bret than on increases in prices. Purchase of overpriced feeder cattle this fall may lead to little or no profit. Stockmen will need to watch their purchase and selling carefully. The agricultural outlook indicated enormous stocks of feed grains with carryovers continuing to increase. On the brighter side are increasing employment and greater purchasing p. wer on the part of the consumer. These will tend to make for a gradual rather than a sharp drop in beef prices.
