So far he hasn‘t missed any work which is] commendable. t++t¢t+tt+ The Achinsons have hadf their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Gus Buddle as guests recently, the Buddles are from Oakland. t++tet+Dickie Jones has just returned to Fort Eustace, Virginia, after having spent 17 days in North San Juan visiting relatives and friends. Dickie had just returned from duty with the Army in Iceland before being stationed at Fort Eustace. ++ e+e "Tommy" and Loretta Thomas left forRedding where T ommy is employed as a drillerin a copper minning operation. Piepenstock of Hidden Valley, saw theirtity cat, Kitty Pus, chased up a 125 foot pine tree by a country cat. Now, as everyone knows, a city cat has no reverse gear WHAT CAN . As a result, the cat spent the weekend of the 8th in the tree. The Watt Park Volunteer Fire Department with the cooperation oftheGold Flat Volunteer Fire Department were called Tuesday morning torescue Kitty Puss, when it became apparent that the cat wouldnot, orcouldnot come back down the tree ot its own accord. Jess Nelms, equipped with UP A TREE..climbs a fireman inresponse to a call of "Fireman, Save My Cat." The cat, chased into the tree by another feline, climbed higher until both were nearly tothe top. Then’the fireman hero coaxed the cat within his grasp (see arrow). A job well-done, firemen from Gold Flat and Wait Park departments talk it over. Fowler is chief at Gold Flat and Seaman heads theWatt Park Volunteers. only logging hooks, climbed the GFVFD 40 foot ladder and traversed the rest of the way by hook luck and prayer to the top of the 125 foot tree. As he neared the cat, the cat traversed higher and farther out on the various limbs, until both cat and Nelms were ‘ in the very top of the tree. By coaxing and-calling, ‘Nelms finally grabbed the cat, and swinging from his perch stuffed the protesting feline into his sweat shirt, and began the trip downward. When he hadreached about 80 feet, he dropped the cat, into a blanket held by Dow Alexander, Don Fowler, Al Cresswell, and M.L. Seaman. Cats being what they are, Kitty Puss took off like a streak for his home anda welcome bowl of warm milk. Mr. and Mrs. Piepenstock are new to this area, having moved to Hidden Valley last May from Huntington Park, However, they now know that there are many good neighbors inthe community , and showed their appreciation by making a donation to M. L. Seaman, Chief ofthenewly organized Watt Park Volunteer Fire Department. —Advertisement— District.
