A reduction in agricultural truck operating expenses
would increase net farm
profits substantially and
help combat rising agricultural operating costs, a University of California agricultural professor declared
today.
Professor Roy Bainer said
that, “although farm profit
margins are tight, the volume of farm production is
the highest ever. The physal volume of farm goods
marketed in 1959 was at an
all-time high and is expected to be even higher in 1960.
This increased volume
, farm goods requires the opof. The
products are moved by
truck. As this percentage
continues to increase, truck
operating expenses are becoming mcre and more vital
to the agricultural ecenomy,” he said.
Professor Bainer concluded that, “any reduction in
truck operating expenses
would enable farmers to reduce their actual] fixed overhead and thereby increaseé
their net profit.”
