The Japanese have a new and tiny prince intheir midst. Queen Elizabeth has anew prince, the first born to a reigning queen in over a hundred years. Princess Margaret is going to be’ wed..and this is one of the nicest things we have heardina long time. reigning English family seems to be blessed with difficulties whenever a marriage is involved, but everyone seems to be happy about the coming wedding. BAD LUCK seems to plague Bill Moule, last week he had the misfortune to fall and break his knee. Seems like every time when good things start to happen there is always something sad to take some of the happiness away. OUR TOWNS welcomed a Leap Year baby last week..Bryan Clements Herr, who will live in NevadaCity. The proud daddy is anengineer for the U.S. Forest Service. Bryan will not be celebrating his first official birthday until 1964..whichdoes seem rather a long time to have to wait for a real birthday, doesn't it? ON THE OTHER HAND..A birthday celebration on Leap Year day was celebrated by Marta Caldwell. It was her lst official birthday. Attending were the 3 Mallot children from Marysville. Teddy and David Yarborough, Jane and Andy Van Doren from Grass Valley, and Grandmother, Mrs. Martha Zesiger from Orville, Washington. THE RED CROSS had kickoff luncheons in our Two Gold Dust Cities last week. Members of the local chapters will be calling at your door to pick up your contributions..welcome them and give all that youare able. Our thanks to the two chapters who sokindlywelcomedus, and such marvelous food we were fed. .There goes the figure again..infact, we think it is already gone. The daphne and camelias are beginning to bloom..and Spring must be just around the corner..or at least leaning around the corner fora few short moments ..andeveryone we know sort of sneaks out for a few minutes and stands in awe of the Lady Spring, who is sending her calling cards and letting us knowthat she will be with us soon. PEACE HAS again settled over Squaw Valley, but now it seems that the kids are clamoring for ice skates..everyone wants totry outtherinks, that for awhile were the personal property of the many skating stars from all overthe world. We too, would liketojoininthe fun, but our skating has been limited since we left Colorado and used to skate on the lily pond at Belt's house, and up and down the drain ditches..such is the reward for getting old and stiff. TALKED TO Clarence Martz the other day, mentioned the fact that we had noted that the Nevada City police wore 7 pointed starts, (the same number as theSF police, who, accordingto Herb Caen, are the only ones who have 7 points on their. stars). You know, Clarence says he has been wearing his badge for about 15 years, and frankly didn't know just how many points were onit. Says he just put it on, and never thought any more about it. Well? PRIMROSES to Mrs. Lillian Mott who took the time to show her beautiful colored slides of many kinds of mushrooms, (we didn't know there were so many) and explain a little about each to the combined Garden Clubs of our area. If you have not had the opportunity to see these Slides, youreally can't begin to imagine what you have missed. Beingallin color, they are simply magnificent. ALL IS QUIET in the office, and each ofus is suffering in silence..too many things todo, and such a little time to do themin..but for sure next week we will dig down in that pile of stuff that each of us covets as "things to do", and refuse to let anyone touch, but keep stacking more and more onto it..for we WILL dig into it soon..IF time permits.
