Members of the Grass Valley Area Girl § Scout Council are among the nearly three and a half million Girl Scouts celebrating their 48th anniversary this week, March 6, through March 12. The first troop meeting organized by Juliette Gordon Low, founder of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., took place in Savasnah, Georgia, on March: 127) 1912. The local Girl Scout Council, now in its 20th year, is serving 291 girls who are registeredin17 troops. Members are * from seven through seventeen, and may be Brownie Scouts, Intermediate Girl Scouts, orSenior Girl Scouts, depending on.age. Nearly 100 dedicated volunteers make available the richly varied Scouting program to girls inthe area, sothat they may grow up as alert, self-disciplined and useful citizens. The 1960 Girl Scout theme is "You Can Count on Her To Be Prepared", emphazizing the ways inwhich Girl Scouting helps to prepare girls for their future role as women in a complex and ever-changing world.
