Tamen Nou t Nort‘ofesale business houses of. Purof Sacramento are dependent Feat measure for their past pros£and future prospects of success ae retail dealers of that portion of s< State consisting of what is known as the mining counties. The patron» age of the latter is not bestowed upon * ~ them-because of any extraordinary in~~~ ducements in the way of low prices or superior quality of goods, which are obtainable at the capital city, but is principally due to the fact that it is ay “little more ‘convenient for the mer-} chants of. Northern California to do . : their buying at Sacramento than it is. at San Francisco. Hence while the * former city does not get all of such trade, it is favored with the bulk of it. The wholesalers of Sacramento comprise the backbone and sinew of the Board of Trade at that city. As men who sell goods to our people, they invariably tell us they ure in favor of a speedy and fair adjustment of the difficulties between the anti-miners and the miners, and they pledge themselves to do everything in their power . to help reach a settlement. They say that while their sympathies are with us, and while they are satisfied that the anti-miners are foolish and unreasonable in many respeets, they can not take sides with us openly for fear they may injure their business-in Yuba and Sutter counties. We tell them we do not expect them to fight our battles; for we are right, and as_ right is all-prevailing we know our cause will triumph in the end if outsiders keep their hands. off until we! can have it out with the cranks and) blackmailers who have enlisted under . the anti-debris banner. The Sacramento business men as individuals . from whom we buy our provisions, . clothing, hardware, liquors,’ drugs, printing materials, etc., assure us that they will ‘‘do the square thing” in return for the profits they make out of us. But do they? No! What evidence is there _of their treachery ? The following, adopted by them when they were assembled last week as members of the Board of Trade: : “WHEREAS, There has been introduced, and is now pending before the BASE INGRATDE. The patients have pains about the chest and sides, and sometimes in the back. They feel dull and sleepy; the mouth has a bad taste, especially in the morning. A sort of sticky slime collects about the teeth. The appetite is, poor. There is a feeling like a heavy load on the stomach ; sometimes a faint,-all-gone sensation at the pit of t.e stomach which food does not satisfy. The eyes are sunken, the hands . and feet become cold and feel~’ clammy. After a while a cough sets in, at first dry, but after a few months it is at tended with a greenish colored expectoration. The patient feels tired all the while, and sleep does not seem to afford any rest. After a tim? he becomes nervous, irritable and gloomy, and has evil forebodings. There is a giddiness, a sort of whirling sensation in . the head when rising up suddenly. The bowels. become . costive; the skin is dry and hot at times; the blood becomes thick and stagnant; the whites of the eyes become tinged with act ‘the kiduey secretions comes scanty and high colored, depositing a sediment . after standing. There is frequently a spitting up of the food, sometimes with a sour taste and sometimes with a sweetish taste; this is frequently attended with palpitation of the heart and Asthmatic symptoms; the vision becomes impaired, with ‘spots before the eyes; there is a feeling of great prostration and weakness. All of these sym toms are in turn present. t is thought that nearly one-half of our population has this disvusy jn euneof its varied forms, Shaker Extract of Roots (Seigel’s Syrup) changes the ferments of the Digestive organs so as to convert the tood we eat into a form that will give nourishment to the feeble body, and ood health is the consequence. he effect of this remedy is ee eee seameet and urge—the ae saad mblymen ae] Saca ramento county to o said bill, 7 a eres Sere Ee a seeure its defeat. Now. do the retail dealers of the mining counties relish this uncalled for and desperate attempt on the part of their ‘‘friends’”” in Sacramento to prevent the miners from escaping the <a total ruination that threatens them? eee The retail dealers should remember et all the time that the same blow which causes the downfall of the mining industry will paralyze the commercial interests of every mining region. One of the gang of Italians working . in place of the striking grain-shovelers, at the Erie basin, Brooklyn, fell into * the shute on the fifth floor of the elevator and was dug out dead on the third ' floor. The frequent disappearance of unskilled Italians has been noted lately, but it was supposed that they were persuaded by the strikers to quit. The belief is general now that the men have been suffocated by falling into the shute and then.carried_with the grain into the ship and so borne off to foreign ports. ee eee Tue demands of the striking miners at Aindrie, Lancashire, have been conceded.
