CAB 1-3 - The People vs. Andrew Hartman (1856) (19 pages)

Mr. Andrew Hartman, an immigrant from Scotland who owned Crystal Springs Ranch in Rough and Ready was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to do bodily harm to his neighbor, Mr. Piper. The dispute between the neighbors was over some cattle getting across the property line and something about "preventing your wife from being hung in '53". The conflict which resulted in several guns and pitch forks being drawn was broken up by Mr. Hartman's son and another neighbor. Mr. Hartman was found guilty and fined.
