Valley called him into consultation very
often. At one time he was called to
North Bloomfield to consult with Dr.
DeMillieu. It must have been a special
French holiday for Dr. DeMillieu had on
a very fancy cape and a plug hat. He
was full of benedictine and brandy. Dr.
Hunt saw his patients but would not
consult with him.
Dr. Hunt was very civic minded and
was instrumental in bringing the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad to
Nevada City. He was one of the original founders of the old Citizens Bank
and one of its directors from the beginning up to the time of his death. He was
a rank Republican and very much in
politics. He died in his home in Nevada
City and his ashes are in Utica,
Herkimer County, New York, and may
he rest in peace.
I will close with this short poem to
his memory.
A friend like you meant a look and a
smile
That lifted the load from each weary
mile;
A friend like you meant a hand’s warm
touch
When the task you faced seemed a bit
too much
A friend like you meant a day’s glad
start
With a brighter brain and a lighter
heart.
Sunshine—roses—skies of blue
That’s what it meant to have a friend
like you.
