i974 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
To the members and friends o} the Nevada County Historical Society:Another year in the Historical Suciety’s neverending search for, and tie preservation of, the County’s priceless artifacts iswellon its way. Our three museums,
housing the Society’s collections, are attracting greater numbers each year,
In 1949, 3000 people registered. Visitors at the three museums last year totaled
more than four times that number.
The Searls Law Library in Nevada City, under its curator Doris Foley and
staff, after only one year in existence, is well organized and able to privide
the public with research material and genealogical information.
The Cultural Museum in Nevada City under Hjalmer Berg, Curator, Assistant Curator Frances Wright and staff, were able to keep this museum open all
year for the first time. Some new items acquired for this museum were from
the now defunct Nevada General Hospital through the generosity of the Nevada
County Board of Supervisors, Prospects are good for additional space nearby
for this museum,
The Pelton Wheel Museum in Grass Valiey under Curator Glenn Jones,
with some donated labor and several generous gifts, is making great strides in
the housing, erection and display of mining equipment. This is a summary of
the museums for our many members who cannot visit them in person, Admission is free to members.
Adequate housing and storage for memorabilia is non-existent. It may be
time we considered a ‘‘County Museum’? with adequate display, storage and
grounds. There are many pro’s and con’s in this regard. Ideas and comments
are welcome. With the assistance of the Board of Directors, our loyal membership and friends, the Society will continue to move forward in our announced
goals of collecting, perserving and making accessible to the public artifacts and
information of historical interest.
Sincerely, ROMAN ROZYNSKI, President Nevada County Historical Society.
