thirty-four; 1921 to 1930, thirty-nine; 1931 to 1940, eighteen; and from 1941 to 1952, seventeen. The decline of university graduates in the last two decades of the school’s existence coincided with the closing of the mines and the exodus of mining people. The lack of emphasis may have been economic, insufficient incentive or parental encouragement, or the opening of a variety of occupations not requiring a university diploma. GRADUATES In the early 1900’s, Nevada City High had the reputation of having produced some of the State’s most outstanding men. (Women were yet to be counted!)
