$1500 per year (but French monte and thimble rig games were
outlawed). “Hawkers and pedlers” selling goods in the public
thoroughfares paid only $5 a month, but for wagoners selling
from wagons on the streets it was $5 per day. Persons dealing
exclusively in vegetables were exempt. It was illegal to sell
liquor to be consumed on public streets. Auctioncers who
failed to purchase licenses could be fined between $25 and
$50 per sale; liquor, beer or wine merchants might be fined
between $10 and $25 per offense. Exhibitors and owners of
gambling houses were subject to $50 to $100 fines. Hawkers,
pedlers and wagoners could be fined $5 to $10 per sale.

FOR ALDERMEN
Ordinance 19 provided for the removal of slaughter houses
or yards and “accumulated offal” from the city within 10 days
after publication of the ordinance. The penalty for slaughtering within the city limits was $100 per offense.
Ordinance 33 respecting disorderly houses and houses of
ill fame did not appear to be an abatement law so much as a
revenue-producing measure, for persons convicted of operat~~
ing such unlawful businesses were to be charged $50 to $100,
per offense, or go to jail for 5 to 10 days. ,
