PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings Society Members,
My message in this edition will be purposely brief so that you can
get onto the more entertaining and informative articles within.
In addition to our regular museum and library director reports,
we have two special newsworthy submitted articles, reporting on
Society related events.
First, you will find a report penned by local author and new
Society member Rose Murphy, wherein she shares of her recent
tour experience with You Bet and Old Red Dog Mining District
historian Jerry Brady. I asked Rose if she would accompany Jerry
Brady and then share thoughts of the tour, as well as taking her
camera alone so we too could visually experience just a bit of the
Brady guided tour. See page 6 for her article.
Next, our very own Society treasurer David Bard chaired this
year’s Citizen of the Year Nomination Committee and he too
reports on the success of their efforts in recognizing the exemplary
efforts of Gage McKinney, Tanis Thorn, Chris Ward, and Mark
Selverston. At our annual Awards & Volunteer Appreciation
barbecue held at Condon Park, Grass Valley on September 25,
each was bestowed an award befitting of their notable service
in preserving the history of Nevada County. Photographs of the
