150 AUGUST 25, 1854 NEVADA JOURNAL New Machinery.—We are glad to see that Mr. Harmer, the present manager of the steam saw mill known as Hirst & Russell’s, on Little Deer Creek, is now putting in a set of completely new machinery, including a large engine and double saws, capable of sawing the largest of our pine timber. THE TURF.—The race between the celebrated horse Wagoner of Sacramento and Henry Clay of Nevada came off on Friday last. The Wagoner won the race the two first heats. At each heat they run together beautifully for two thirds the distance, but at the latter end Wagoner run a head, winning by some 30 feet. A. Smith’s new race course is now finished, and in complete readiness. Some time during the coming week, a race will come off over that track for a splendid prize to be awarded by the proprietor. We anticipate for him a large turn-out at the christening of the ground. We see that our old friend [Lorenzo] Sawyer, has been nominated by the Whigs of San Francisco for City Attorney.
