150 JULY 3 & 10, 1857 NEVADA JOURNAL house was crowded from pit to gallery. It was an audience such as Jacobs alone can draw. The wizard is indeed a wonderful performer. He performs the most astonishing feats and defies detection. Just think of a man treating two hundred to whatever they call for out of one and the same bottle! Not less inexplicable are the other tricks of the wizard. As an improvisatore he beats the world, singing an extemporaneous song on any or all subjects given him without a moment’s hesitation. Jacobs appears again tonight and tomorrow night at the same place. It is useless to bespeak a house—it cannot fail to be crowded. THEATRE. Friday and Saturday, July 3d and 4th, JACOBS THE WIZARD! VENTRILOQUIST! Great Modern Magician, PROFESSOR OF Experimental, Scientific & Mechanical PHILOSOPHY! and Improvisatore! Nevada Iron and Brass Foundry and MACHINE SHOP. That Bell.—Our court house was day before yesterday rigged with a bell which ever and anon rings its dulcet notes over the city. It is a welcome messenger of events and a decided advantage to all within the sound of its voice. Corner Stone Ceremonies. The corner stone of the Congregational Church of this city was laid on the 4th of July, accompanied with appropriate ceremonies and exercises. An introductory anthem was sung by the choir of the Church, after which Rev. Martin Kellogg, of Grass Valley, read select portions of scripture, which as a whole formed a collection, so particularly appropriate, that it seemed to be written almost expressly for the occasion. A prayer was then offered by the same clergyman. Another anthem was again sung by the choir, which by its appropriateness and execution, added greatly to the interest and dignity of the occasion. Rev. Mr. Warren then proceeded to deposit the following articles, a full list of which we have taken pains to secure. 1. A copy of the Bible, presented for the occasion by Mrs. J. S. Harrison. 2. The confession of Faith and Covenant of the church. 3. The history of the church with a list of its officers, &c.
