SHOOTING AFFRAY.—A shooting affray occurred at Red Dog on Saturday last, between Wm.
Langston and Dr. D. A. Crane, which resulted in the latter getting a severe flesh wound in the breast. It
appears that the parties had had an altercation, arising from some misunderstanding, which they mutually
agreed should be left to a friend. Langston afterwards met Dr. Crane at Mr. Begold’s [sic] tin shop and
while the Doctor was sitting with his arms folded, Langston asked him some question in regard to the
dispute. The Doctor replied by referring the whole matter to the friend they had chosen to adjust the
difficulty. Langston then drew a revolver and before the Doctor had time to rise, fired it at him, the ball
passing through the upper part of the right breast, and coming out back of the right nipple. The bystanders
interfered, and prevented him from firing again. Dr. Crane, however, succeeded in drawing a small pistol,
which he attempted to discharge at Langston, but only succeeded in exploding a cap. Langston then made
his escape, and has not yet been taken. The wounded man is doing well, and is not considered in any
danger.
