74 APRIL 22, 1857 NEVADA DEMOCRAT MARRIED. On Sunday, April 19th, at the residence of Mrs. Fink, on Stockton Street, San Francisco, by DR. ECKMAN, MR. SIMON ROSENTHAL, of this city, to MISS HANNAH SHIEF, of New York. FOUND DEAD.—An inquest was held on Tuesday April 14th by Justice Spofford on the body of a man found in a shaft on Massachusetts Hill, near Grass Valley. From the Telegraph we learn that the name of the deceased was Patrick Carbery; that on the evening of the 19th of February last, in company with two friends, he was returning home from town, and when at or near the spot where the body was found, their lantern went out and one of the party returned a short distance to get a light. When he got back Carbery was missing, and although search was made for him then and afterwards, he was not to be found, and was never seen or heard from until found as above, nearly two months after. The shaft had some thirty feet of water in it, and the deceased was probably stunned by the fall so that he could make no outcry. A verdict was rendered in accordance with the above facts. A FREE FIGHT occurred at Knap’s Billiard Saloon, Orleans Flat, on Sunday last, in which some fifteen or twenty men were engaged. The only weapons used were billiard cues, balls, glass tumblers, and the furniture of the room generally. Several were severely, but not dangerously hurt. Our informant did not witness the fight, but from the number of sore faces and swelled heads round town the next day, he concluded that Orleans Flat was “a right lively little burg.” BILLIARD SALOON.—Prescott & Napfle open a new billiard saloon this evening, on Commercial street, second door below Block’s.
