90 APRIL 24, 1857 NEVADA JOURNAL Walker’s army. He would have been an invaluable acquisition to that band of heroes, but unfortunately for his project, Mr. Nugent had a little claim against him in behalf of the state, and he was forced to delay his ambitious designs. He is now safe in jail. We understand that Mr. Butterfield, Sheriff of this county, paid Mr. Nugent a very handsome sum of money for capturing the notorious scoundrel, Gehr. Much credit is due Mr. Butterfield for his prompt exertions in causing this villain to be arrested. DISTRICT COURT.—The April term of the District Court commenced on Monday. There are about seventy cases now on the calendar, and the number is constantly increasing. Luckily for clients, by a recent act of the Legislature, our term has been lengthened so that it will continue nearly three months, instead of four weeks, as under the old law. This will give ample time to try all the cases. The next term will commence with a clear docket. . . . BAPTIST CHURCH.—Operations have commenced again on the new Baptist Church on the corner of Pine and Spring streets. The frame work was erected last fall, but owing to the heavy rains, and the fact that the foundation was, in part, newly made ground, it settled some, and it was thought best not to complete it, until spring. The building will now be speedily finished. MAIN ST. BRIDGE.—This bridge is now entirely completed. We understand that Mr. J. Stratton, a prominent School Teacher formerly of Sacramento, contemplates opening a School in this city about the 4th of May. Mr. Stratton comes among us highly recommended, as a gentleman of ability, and we trust that our citizens will show him that encouragement which will induce him to remain. [SHERIFF’S SALE in favor of Henry Meredith against Samuel S. Davis and Mary A. Davis, his wife, for the sum of $5,000. Also that piece or parcel of land known as the “Empire Saloon” lot, on the north side of Main st, being 38 feet on said st, thence running 100 feet northerly across the ravine, thence parallel with Main st 38 feet, thence 100 feet south to Main st, the said lot bounding on the west the lot known as “Grush’s Hotel.” Also all that parcel of land known as the Nevada street Cottage lot, above the mouth of Coyote ravine on the east side of Nevada st; being 89 feet on said st, thence easterly 100 feet more or less to the middle of Big Deer Creek, thence down said stream 89 feet, thence westerly to Nevada st together with all and singular the tenements, &c.; on May 16, 1857.] [SHERIFF’S SALE in favor of Tracy Stroud against Simon Rosenthal for the sum of $6,282. Mulford, being 17 feet front, and extending rearwards about the same, with 100 feet towards the ravine, between Main and Broad sts, being the same premises now occupied by the parties of the first part as a Dry Goods store. Also that other lot beginning at the intersection of Main and Coyote or Washington streets, running thence westwardly along the eastwardly side of Main st to the corner of Johns’ brick building thence nearly at right angles along said brick building to Coyote or Washington st, thence along Coyote or Washington st to the place of beginning. on May 16, 1857.]
