NEVADA DEMOCRAT FEBRUARY 24, 1858 25 food from the time he was committed to jail on Friday until he left the hospital. The order for his removal to the hospital was made by the District Judge, and not by the County Judge, as we stated last week. DEATH. On Sunday last a man by the name of Curran [Charles Currens] was mortally wounded in a drunken row at Minnesota [in Sierra county]. Curran got into a difficulty in the fore part of the day with another man, who went off and armed himself with a large bowie knife and returned. A bystander, who attempted to stop him had the knife run through his hand. He then struck Curran on the breast, cutting through into the cavity, and wounding one of the lungs. The wounded man was alive on Sunday evening, but no hopes were entertained of his recovery. We could not learn the name of the perpetrator of the deed. [The March 17 Democrat identified the assailant as William Grogan. . DAVID BUTLER.—This man in all probability will be executed on Friday next. He seems to be resigned to his fate, and has given up all hopes of a pardon, or further delay of the execution. He has exhibited considerable fortitude during his long imprisonment, and designs, if able, to make a statement upon the gallows. It is understood that “Butler” is not his real name. He came from Pike county, Illinois, where his father resided. His mother is dead. He was expecting a letter from his father by the last mail, but received none. He has since, however, received a letter from a friend in Oregon, stating that his father has recently died. —Since the above was in type, we learned that his correct name is Major C. Bollin. THE SAN JUAN HOMICIDE.—For the particulars of the shooting of Reynolds at San Juan, on Sunday last, we refer to the communications of our correspondent at that place. We received a telegraphic dispatch yesterday afternoon, stating that circumstances were thickening around Moore, and that he would doubtless be committed on the charge of murder. A witness had just been sworn, who testified that Moore fired the first shot at Reynolds. Northup has made his escape. The Shooting Affray at San Juan. NORTH SAN JUAN, Feb. 21, 1858. Ed. Democrat:—I send you the particulars of the shooting affair last night. I believe they are mainly true. Wm. Reynolds, driver of the C. Stage Co.’s coach from Marysville to San Juan, has had criminal intercourse with the wife of E. Northup; the fact was discovered by Mr. French, proprietor of the saw mill at which Mr. and Mrs. Northup were employed; this discovery was made on Friday, 12th inst.,; and soon became the current topic in town. Reynolds continued his trips to this place regularly, and appeared on terms of social intimacy with Northup, until a feeling of contempt for the latter seemed to pervade the entire community. On Saturday a card appeared in the “Star,” signed Geo. W. Moore, implying that Reynolds had offered a reward of $500 to know the author of the report above mentioned, and offering to show R. the author for a per centage of the amount. Evening came, and with it the stage and Reynolds; a few minutes after his arrival he encountered Mr. French, and placing his hand upon his pistol, demanded (it is said) a retraction; French said he was unarmed, but that he would not retract a word; Reynolds then abused him, ending with spitting in his face; he then proceeded to the hotel, passed up stairs, and after a short time went down to the barroom, where Northup, Moore and others were; on entering he shook hands with Northup, and passed on; Moore then went to him, and while saying that French was innocent, Northup fired into his breast; Reynolds ran into the dining
