2 JANUARY 5, 1859 NEVADA DEMOCRAT be well if similar institutions were established in all the mining sections of the State. [Nevada City Trustees’ Report for July 19, 1858 to Jan. 1, 1859, appears in this issue. ] MARRIED. At Grass Valley, Jan. 2nd, by Father Dalton, Mr. JACOB C. CLARK, to Miss JULIA REARDEN, all of Nevada. In this city, Dec 27th, by Rev. [D. A.] Dryden, Mr. E. H. BARKER to Miss MARY LEGG, both of Nevada. BURGLARIES.—During the past week the burglars have made a number of nocturnal visits in this place. The house of Judge Searls has been entered twice. The first time was about three o’clock last Wednesday morning. The Judge being awakened by the noise came out into the entry, when he could distinctly hear some one breathing hard at the head of the stairs. After listening a moment one of the robbers, who had a mask over his face, came down far enough to be seen by the Judge, when he said, “if you will go back in your room we will leave.” As the Judge’s pistol was not loaded, he accepted the compromise, and the robbers took their departure. During the same night the houses of Mr. Wm. Davis and Mr. Hartman, who live not far from Judge Searls, were entered, but the burglars got nothing of much value. The inmates of Mr. Davis’ house were awakened by the noise, and Mrs. Davis saw four men leaving the premises. They carried off a pair of boots and a trunk from the house of Mr. Hartman. The trunk was found the next morning, the contents having been overhauled and a specimen pin taken. The house of Judge Searls was again entered on Saturday night. The Judge was awakened by the noise, and taking his pistol, which was loaded this time, went to the front door, but the burglar had doubtless heard the noise and made tracks. He carried off an overcoat and a cane, belonging to the Judge, which had been left in the entry. MARTIN, THE WIZARD.—This gentleman has given three performances in Nevada, during the past week, which have been well attended. He is one of the best legerdemain performers we have ever seen. The members of Nevada Library Association, are hereby notified that the annual election for officers will be held at the Library Room, Main street, on Thursday evening Jan. 6th 1859, at 7 o’clock... .
