MORNING TRANSCRIPT SEPTEMBER 10 & 11, 1860 201
Prussia. Also, Wm. Bloour, a native of Hess-Cassel, on the testimony of Capt. Henderson and Dan’.
McCarty.
A PUGNACIOUS CHINAMAN.—A citizen had a quarrel with a Chinaman, in the street, on
Saturday, and undertook to pitch into him. The Chinaman came up in the scratch, like a hero, and the
citizen, not liking the looks of things, was fain to pull out a bowie knife, whereupon the Chinaman
subsided.
A FIRE ALARM, though [not] a general or noisy one, occurred on Broad street, on Saturday night,
occasioned by the explosion of a camphene lamp. Fortunately, no mischief was done, as the flames were
speedily extinguished.
. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1860]
IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CAMERA OBSCURA.—While at Grass Valley the other day, says the
Hydraulic Press, “we were shown by Mr. T. M. Wood, daguerrean artist, a camera recently received from
New York; the only one of the kind in the State, we believe, which takes twelve miniature pictures at one
sitting. Six are taken during the first few seconds of time when a spring is touched, the plate, pushed up,
and six more impressed on a lower parallel line. The principal objects of the invention seems to be to
supplant the use of visiting cards. Instead of leaving this style of indicator at the door of a neighbor, as
heretofore, a lady hands in the counterfeit presentment of her features, which is placed in the usual
receptacle on the center-table, to be gazed at, and if handsome, admired by all the gentlemen visitors of
the house. What next.”
