TUESDAY, JULY 28, 1863
ARRIVALS AT NATIONAL EXCHANGE, July 25, 1863—George Hearst, wife [Phoebe], child
[William Randolph, 3 months old] and servant from Virginia City.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 29, 1863
COURT HOUSE WALL.—The wall about the Court House lot is a good looking institution as it
approaches completion. The workmen are finishing it up in good style and the malefacting Chinamen are
leveling the lot up superbly. Put an iron fence on the top of that wall and it will look gay.
The firemen’s election took place at the Hook and Ladder House on Monday evening last. Hank
Knerr was unanimously elected Chief Engineer for the ensuing year.
THURSDAY, JULY 30, 1863
GEN. ALLEN, who knows the Vallandigham family, says the accent in pronouncing the name
should be thrown on the second syllable. The General also says the way to pronounce the name of the
Union candidate for Gov. of Ohio, in opposition to Vallandigham, is Bruff; The General is posted and the
question is decided.
Gen. James Allen is a candidate for member of the constitutional convention of the State of Washoe.
... In Probate Court, Nevada county. In the matter of the Estate of David Shrum, deceased. IT appearing to
the Judge of said Probate Court by the petition of Matthew Creamer and Oliver A. Paine, Executors of the last Will
and testament of David Shrum, deceased, .. . 29th day of July, 1863. A. C. Niles [David Shrum died at Omega on
April 22, 1861.]
NOTICE.—Whereas the Trustees of the M. E. Church propose to mortgage the lot on the South side of Broad
street, known as the Parsonage lot, for $1,000, bearing one and a half per cent interest per month to A. A. Sargent,
and have said property released from the mortgage now encumbering it, and have applied to the District Court for
an order authorizing said mortgage to be executed, notice is given to all persons interested to appear on Friday, July
31st, 1863 to show cause if any they can why said order should not be made. JOHN PASCOE,
