NEVADA TRANSCRIPT AUGUST 1, 2, 4, 1863 119 SATURDAY, AUGUST 1, 1863 SERIOUS ACCIDENT.—Iwo men named Humphrey [Homfray] and Cook, started out of town last evening in a buggy, to return to their home in Forest City. When near the head of Broad street, the horses ran out of the road, the driver, Cook, was thrown out, and the wheels of the buggy passed over his leg without much injury. The other man tried to catch the reins, but was thrown out falling on his head. He was not expected last evening to live through the night. SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 1863 DISTRICT COURT, July 31st—In the matter of the application of the Trustees of the M. E. Church of Nevada, the Trustees were authorized to mortgage parsonage. BIRTH. At Little York, on the 29th of July, the wife of John Hill of a son. DEAD.—The gentleman named Homfray, (not Humphrey, as spelled by us yesterday) who was thrown from a buggy on Friday evening on Broad street, died two hours after from the injuries received. The deceased was a brother of Robert Homfray, civil engineer, who formerly resided in Grass Valley. He was an Englishman by birth and has considerable property in Sierra county, in ditches &c. A man who had been long in his employ recently died in Forest City and requested to be buried at Grass Valley. Homfray came here in fulfillment of that last request, and lost his life himself. It appears that the driver of the buggy in which Homfray was, allowed the reins to hang loosely in coming down hill and one of the horses switched his tail over one of them and turned out of the road. The driver jerked on the rein and turned the horses still further out of the road, when he was thrown out... . The remains of Mr. Homfray will be taken to Forest City for interment. DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.—The Democratic Primary of yesterday was a most dismal affair. Scarcely a man made his appearance to vote. Of course, as voting was a mere matter of form, there was no contest. The following is the list of persons who were elected [to] the Democratic County Convention, which convenes in Nevada on Friday next: Niles Searls, Harvey Helm, G. E. Withington, John Dixon, Dan Clancey, L. Samuels, A. P. Church, Chas. Dunn, Tim Parker, Matt. Tracy, Jas. Dolon, Hugh Craig, Jas. Bensley. TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 1863 JAMES CHURCHMAN, ESQ.—We learn from Postmaster Bean that James Churchman, Esq., has resigned the Consulship of Valparaiso, and that he will shortly return to this State to live. Kellogg, of Illinois, late a member of Congress, has been appointed to succeed Churchman. HO, FOREIGNERS!—The District Court will meet for the purpose of naturalizing foreigners desiring to become American citizens, on Saturday the 15th inst., at 10 o’clock. As this will be the only meeting of the Court before the September election, all concerned will please take notice. Messrs. E. W. Smith, A. G. Pier and Wm. Kent were elected School Trustees in this district on Saturday last. R. H. Farquhar, David Belden and E. Bigelow were elected in Oakland district.
