NEVADA TRANSCRIPT APRIL 2, 1863 55 presented by Assemblyman Martin. ... We suppose the proposition is to be submitted to the people of the county for acceptance or rejection. If it be not presented to them in the most acceptable shape it will be sure of defeat. We would like to see the bill pending in the House, and hear the views of men most deeply interested in the welfare of the county, before it comes to a final vote. We are inclined to the opinion that the bill will be lost for want of time if for nothing else. EXECUTION OF BURKE.—The time for the execution of Burke is fixed for tomorrow between the hours of nine and four. The law will be complied with strictly by the Sheriff. It is, perhaps, not well known that besides a few officers of the law, the Sheriff is allowed to invite but twelve citizens to witness the execution. The sentence of the Court will be carried out as privately as possible. DEATH OF A HEAVY MAN.—T. J. Shelley, weighing 500 pounds, died in New York on the 27th of February. He was the coach driver for the United States Hotel, and at the time of his death was the heaviest man in New York. THE ARMY.—The army of the Union is, or rather was, the largest of modern times. Napoleon the First had at one time one million one hundred thousand men in arms. There have been called to the field by the Government since the rebellion commenced about seventy-five thousand more men than Napoleon’s highest figure. MILITARY NOTICE! NEVADA, March 3 lst, 1863.
