JEFF. DAVIS TAKEN GRASS VALLEY.—The rebels made a guerrilla raid on Grass Valley

BRIDGEPORT TOWNSHIP ELECTION.—The copperheads elected their ticket in the main in
Bridgeport township. [Alfred] A. Hodge, as good a Union man as they make them, was elected Justice of
the Peace. Our friend [W. S.] Edwards was defeated for Constable. Bridgeport is one of the most staunch
Union townships in the county.
GRASS VALLEY TOWNSHIP ELECTION.—The copperheads had been fixing up the cards for
weeks to carry the election in Grass Valley. Under the lead of a Knight or two of the Golden Circle, the

that could curse the Union or give vent to peace Democratic nonsense, was mustered and rushed to the
polls. Teams ran constantly to all parts of the township to bring up the abandoned copperhead fraternity.
The result we already knew.
A man has been elected Collector after the style of the dark ages of politics in this county—an
incorrigible chivalry, secession gambler. Of course the township funds will be safe in his hands. The
