Constables—Jno. Perkinpine, S. W. Piper. THURSDAY, MAY 7, 1863 MORE ABOUT THE TOWNSHIP ELECTIONS.—If the reports that reach us be true the copperheads have carried five out of eight of the townships of this county, which demonstrates that Unionists need not flatter themselves that they are to obtain an easy victory hereafter by “lying supinely on their backs and hugging a delusive phantom.” There is power enough in the Union organization to crush copperheadism to atoms, if that power be put forth, and it must, will and shall be done. Enough has been done by the truckling devils who oppose the Administration to awaken an interest from this time on. There is not a Union man in the county but will throw aside all labor on the next election day, and work for the cause if it be necessary. We tell the copperheads they may exult. Their strutting period will be brief. They will be shown their weakness in the next election; and more than that, the day is not far off when they will wear the brand of ignominy placed upon them by the people of a regenerated nation.
