136 MARCH 23, 24, 25, 1865 NEVADA GAZETTE attorney asked him a question relative to the general reputation of one of the parties to the suit. “Well,” said witness, “people generally consider him a fool; but in my opinion he is more r— than f—.” “What is that?” queried the lawyer. “Study it out for yourself,’ was the reply. A direct answer being insisted upon, however, the witness finally explained himself thus: “Well, you sometimes hear it said of a man that his is more fool than rogue. Now, sir, take the converse of that proposition and you have my meaning. In my opinion this man is more r— than f—.” It struck us as a very roundabout but exceedingly polite way of pronouncing a man a rascal. Carley, Esq., exhibited to us yesterday an egg measuring 7-3/8 inches in circumference longitudinally, and 6 inches latitudinally. The size of the egg is not so remarkable as the fact that it is the result of the third effort of a young pullet, which has just commenced laying; and her first and second eggs were nearly as large. When that pullet gets a little used to it, so as to lay goodsized eggs, Carley intends to take one of them and make a bucket of egg-nog for his friends who like the beverage. Section first prohibits the catching of trout by any means whatever, between the twentieth of October of each year and the first day of April of the following year. Section second forbids the taking of trout from waters within the boundaries of certain counties lying to the north of this, except by hook and line, between the months of February and July of each year.
