NEVADA TRANSCRIPT MARCH 27-31, 1865 153 Wednesday. District Attorney Thos. P. Hawley, A. A. Sargent and D. Belden appear for the State, and A. B. Dibble for the defense. TUESDAY, MARCH 28, 1865 BIRTH. In this city, on the 24th inst., the wife of J. R. Goodman, of a son. MARRIED. In this city, on the 27th inst., by Rev. D. A. Dryden, J. Y. McNutt to Alice Oldham, all of Smartsville, Yuba county. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29, 1865 A TRUE FRENCHMAN.—We noticed in the [Sacramento] Union of yesterday a letter from Felix Gillett, of this city, on the duties of “A true Frenchman.” THURSDAY, MARCH 30, 1865 MARRIED. At the house of H. H. Rich, North San Juan, March 26th, by Rev. P. L. Haynes, George C. Spooner, of Sebastopol, to Sarah M. Hesseltine, of the former place. At the National Exchange Hotel, in this city, on the 28th inst., by Rev. D. A. Dryden, P. W. Bartle, of Marysville, to Sarah Jane Landis, of Penn Valley. THE CASE OF GEO. SNEATH.—The case of George Sneath, charged with grand larceny, came off before Judge Smith, yesterday, for preliminary examination. Sneath waived the examination, and was held to bail in the sum of $2,500, to appear and answer before the next Grand Jury. FRIDAY, MARCH 31, 1865 MAJOR KNOWLTON’S STAFF.—Major N. W. Knowlton, commanding the Fourth Infantry Battalion, of the 4th Brigade, California Militia, has appointed E. G. Waite, Adjutant and E. F. Spence, Assistant Surgeon upon his Staff. These are the only commissioned officers to which a Major is entitled. They are both excellent appointments. NEW SHOP.—Dan Clancy is erecting a large building to be used as a blacksmith’s shop, on Broad street. It measures thirty by fifty feet.
