NEVADA GAZETTE JANUARY 21, 23, 24, 1865 19
Rail-ride.—A few days ago a gay Lothario whom Dame Rumor (a lying jade at best) had
it intended running away with another man’s wife, came near being treated to a free ride; but
while the boys were preparing the necessary wooden-horse the festive youth slipped out at
the back door and incontinently “scyugled.” Yesterday the “phair and phrail” one took stage
for Marysville, where it is expected she will meet the amorous swain. On Saturday this same
Lothario and the injured husband had a set-to, which resulted in the arrest of the former, who
was fined $40, which he promptly paid.
Dissolution of Copartnership.
THE CO-PARTNERSHIP HERETOFORE existing between H. Place and R. W. Latta, in the stage business,
was dissolved on the 21st day of December last. The undersigned is alone authorized to receive and receipt for
moneys due, and will pay the just liabilities of the late firm. R. W. LATTA.

TARGET SHOOTING.—On Saturday the Nevada Light Guard marched out to the grounds of Mr.
Mulloy, on the road to Red Dog, and indulged in a little target practice. The target was a life-sized Indian,
in war costume—breech-clout, tomahawk and scalping-knife—which was set up at a distance of about
one hundred and fifty yards. Out of something over one hundred shots fired sixty-four hit the target, and
some were very close to the center. It is due to the members of the Light Guard to say that they used
their guns just as they received them—never having tested their accuracy or had them resighted. No
prizes were awarded. The following is the result of the shooting: Best single shot, D. J. Haven; 2d, N. W.
Knowlton; 3d, C. C. Taft. Best string, three shots, James Hackley; 2d, C. C. Taft; 3d, John A. Lancaster;
Ath, Alex. Gault; 5th, D. J. Haven.
[City Treasurer’s report appears in this issue. ]
PISTOL SHOOTING.—Judge Belden, who is a good shot with rifled weapons, has laid a wager
with Ira Eaton, also a good shot, that in ninety shots with a Colt’s navy-size revolver, at a distance of one
hundred yards, he can beat the string made by the Nevada Light Guard on Saturday last, in their target
practice—the shooting to take place within three days from Saturday. The Guard did very fair shooting,
and fired over one hundred shots.

MARRIED. On the 22d inst., by Rev. H. Cummings, at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. A. B.
DRIESBACH, of Carson City, Nevada, and Miss Lucy E. HATCH, daughter of H. L. Hatch, Esq.,
of Indian Springs, Nevada county.
THE iron shutters for the windows and doors of the Courthouse are being hung in their places. They
are very large, and it is to be hoped that, should another conflagration come upon us, they will prove fireproof.
BATTERSBY’S CASE.—The bond in this case having been approved by Justice Smith, the accused
has been discharged from durance vile, and once more breathes the free air of heaven. It is about four
weeks since he was committed on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses.
