GRASS VALLEY UNION APRIL 5 & 6, 1865 213 Nashville paper: As one of the daughters of Pluto, and the coquettish Yankee Girl, and the young Zouave, she is incomparable, and, indeed, wonderous in her attainments. CONTRACT LET.—The contract for the erection of the Catholic Orphan Asylum has been awarded to Mr. Peter Kent. A full description of this building will appear in our next issue. THURSDAY, APRIL 6, 1865 VICTORY! VICTORY!! What patriot can read the glorious news from the East, and not feel his heart swell with gladness, and his whole soul elated with rapture! The triumph of our army is daily rendered more certain— the glorious cause of liberty and nationality more invincible. Let every patriot thank Heaven with profoundest gratitude, and shout forth his o’er swelling gladness over the onward sweep of our armies in victory and ever-enduring glory. Yes, let him rejoice over the downfall of treason and slavery; let the welkin ring with huzzas over the death and desolationof the hellish host of villains that essayed the destruction of our Republic, and the prosperity and happiness of our glorious country. And you—ye traitors—howl and gnash your teeth, the day of your doom draws nigh... . CATHOLIC ORPHAN ASYLUM.—As we stated yesterday, the contract for the erection of the building was awarded to Mr. Peter Kent on Tuesday last. The building is to be located on Church street, north of the Catholic church, and when completed will be at once a benefit and an ornament to the city. Mr. Kent is an architect and builder of considerable ability, and under his eye, the edifice will no doubt be well constructed. The building will be three stories, the basement being of stone, and the two upper ones of wood. The basement is to be used for cooking, washing and such like purposes. The second story will be occupied as a school room, chapel and sleeping apartments for the sisters. The third floor will contain the hospital, cormitory, etc. Mr. Kent informs us that his contract contemplates the completion of the Asylum about the first day of August next, but he thinks that he will be able to hand it over to the sisters before that time. The contractors for the stone work are Messrs. S. H. Leavitt and John Kinsman. ARE WE TO HAVE A CELEBRATION?—This question has been put to us by a number of Union men, and we now re-echo, Are we to have a celebration over the fall of Richmond? Come, Union men of grass Valley, let us have a celebration in honor of the late successes of the Union arms. Richmond and Petersburg have fallen. Let the welkin ring with our jubilant shouts. Bring out your flags and your guns. Don’t let Grass Valley be behind her neighbors in celebrating the late Union victories. Again we say, let us have a jubilee. Let some good Union man take the initiative in raising a subscription for this purpose. WANTED.—Board and room in a private family for a gentleman and wife. Any person having such accommodations to dispose for a moderate consideration, will please address a note to “Local,” at this office. DR. McINTYRE.—A reference to our advertising columns, will apprise the public of the fact of Dr. McIntyre having located himself in Keele’s building, on Mill street, over the Bank Exchange, for the practice of dentistry in all its branches. If the sccessful practice of his profession for fourteen years in New York city is any recommendation, Dr. McIntyre should certainly have an extensive patronage in Grass Valley. PASSOVER.—The Jewish Passover will commence on the 11th of the present month. The
