NEVADA TRANSCRIPT AUGUST 11-13, 15-16, 1865 419 just returned from Mazatlan, where he has been engaged in mining. Mr. Maltman was long a resident of Nevada City and was interested in some of the best paying mines in the vicinity. He returns to Mazatlan on the next steamer. INCORPORATED.—The Meadow Lake Mill and Mining Company was incorporated a few days since—capital stock, $450,000. The following men are the Trustees: A. G. Hasey, R. P. Barnett, Geo. F. Jacobs, D. Crittenden, E. H. Gaylord and J. M. Fullweiller. SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 1865 COUNTY COURT, Aug 10th——Thos. Thomas, W. J. Crays, Edward Jeffery, natives of England, admitted to citizenship. THEATRE.—Otr readers will be pleased to learn that the Trustees of the Theatre have given the contract for the painting the Scenery to an Artist of San Francisco, who will have it finished in three weeks. The contract was let on Thursday last. No doubt as soon as the Theatre is completed we shall be favored with some one of the companies from the Bay. The people of this burg have been so long without a place of amusement, that the opening of the Theatre, with a good company, would be refreshing. [On the 15th the Transcript said the artist was Mr. [Charles] Campbell, who had painted the panorama of Washoe and California. The drop curtain would be painted first. ] SUNDAY, AUGUST 13, 1865 REV. R. B. SNOWDEN will preach this evening on “The Glory of Young Men.” Those who consider themselves young men have a special invitation to hear the sermon. TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 1865 BIRTH. In this city, on the 14th inst., to the wife of B. Harrigan, a son. At Red Dog, on the 12th inst., to the wife of J. H. Jones, a son. WE understand that Wm. J. Allport, a tip-top man, is building a livery stable at Red Dog. He intends getting some fine stock for the accommodation of the people of that town. We have no doubt a good livery stable would pay well. COUNTY COURT, August 14th—Wnm. Jeffery and John C. Lindemer admitted to citizenship. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1865 BY and advertisement in another column it will be seen that Wm. J. Beggs, Esq. has opened a law office in this city, in Kidd & Knox’s brick building, on the corner of Broad and Pine streets, up stairs. MEADOW LAKE CITY.—This, the chief city of the Excelsior District, is fast becoming civilized. Seventy-five houses have been erected, a hurdy-gurdy establishment is in full blast, a number of gambling houses have been opened and other indications of civilization are becoming numerous. There streets are lighted at night by bonfires and a band has been organized which regales the good people of the town with fine music.
