512 OCTOBER 3-7, 1865 NEVADA TRANSCRIPT
shot gun. A couple of gentlemen were called in, and after hearing the facts, one of them asked the fellow
what he had to say for himself. He could not give any satisfactory answer, and the girl was asked to take
the club procured for that purpose and whip him. This she did with a good will, while the father stood by
with his gun cocked, ready for use. When considerable punishment had been administered, the scoundrel
was notified to leave, with an injunction never to show himself in this community again.
The young lady is a diffident school girl, and the attempt of this scoundrel to ruin her was made
without any encouragement whatever. We understand that this is not the first time such things have been
done in this community. Parents should do all in their power to shield their children from the insults of
such fiends. The law is too slow for such things. Every man in the community who has a sister, and every
one who respects a mother should stand ready to punish such a miscreant wherever discovered. He should
be banished from society and made to feel that the world affords no asylum for one so base. Alas, society
too frequently forgets the offence of the cunning, smooth-tongued villain, while it loathes the innocent
victim.
THE POST OFFICE.—Frank Guild, our new Postmaster, is fixing up his office on Broad street in
splendid style. It is to be provided with drawers, glass and lock boxes, and when finished will be one of
the neatest offices in the State. Frank sent on his bonds some time since and will receive his commission
by the middle of the present month.

Justice of the Peace at Summit City. He is an excellent business man, and will make a first rate officer.
At that place the Justice of the Peace will have a good deal of important business to transact, and a man
should be selected for the position who is “honest and capable.” . . . Summit City is in Washington
township and all who vote in that township will of course have a vote for the Justice at Summit City.

MADAME ANNA BISHOP.—This talented lady will shortly visit this city for the purpose of giving
one of her excellent concerts. .. Madam Bishop will be assisted by Mr. Charles Lascelles, a pianist and
vocalist of distinction, and by Mr. T. G. Evans.
THE printing of the five cent note and three cent note has been discontinued, the former in
compliance with a law of Congress, and the latter by a Treasury regulation.
