Her old friends will heartily welcome her back. MAY CELEBRATION.—We understand that the May celebration has been postponed on account of the storm. Due notice will be given when it is to take place. THURSDAY, MAY 3, 1866 GEN. Grant and the Presidency.—The Galena (Illinois) Daily Gazette of March 14th, notices the nomination of Gen. Grant for the Presidency by a Republican meeting in Rochester, N.Y. It says that Gen. FRIDAY, MAY 4, 1866 MEADOW LAKE.—We learn from this mining region in our county, that a meeting was held last week, for the purpose of taking into consideration the propriety of organizing a Stock Board. A. C. Whitman, a well-known lawyer, from Virginia City, was elected chairman. The subject was fully discussed and the meeting adjourned to Saturday evening, when it is thought the organization will be completed. A theatrical company is playing every evening at Meadow Lake, and drawing good houses. The election of town officers takes place on the first Monday in June. Only twenty-eight candidates for the office of Marshal, sixteen for Assessor, and twenty-seven for Treasurer. . .. The population is increasing very fast, most from the State of Nevada. We predict in about six weeks it will be the liveliest place in the State. The snow is melting very rapidly. INTERESTING.—“Old Block,” (A. Delano of Grass Valley,) has recently visited Nicaragua, where he received the kindest treatment from the people. His descriptions of the country and the people are given in a series of letters to the Sacramento Union. They are very interesting, as is everything from the pen of “Old Block.”
