172 JUNE 12-14, 16, 1866 NEVADA TRANSCRIPT most excellent condition. The worst part of the road is between this city and Bowman’s, and there is but little mud even on that... . The branch road from Webber’s to Meadow Lake is now opened, and we are informed teams are going directly into the city without encountering snow of consequence. .. . The distance from this city to Webber’s is forty miles, and from Webber’s to Meadow Lake nine miles. This makes the distance from Colfax sixty-three miles, and from Marysville eighty-seven miles. This route is by all odds the bet for vehicles to the summit. The road to Bear Valley and through by the trail from Flint’s ranch, is the best for horsemen, being about five miles shorter than any other. NEW STAGE LINE.—We understand that W. J. Allport has started a daily line of stages between Red Dog and Colfax, the distance being only about ten miles. Heretofore passengers from that section have always come through this city. By reference to our advertising columns, it will be seen that John I. Caldwell and John Caldwell have entered into co-partnership, and opened an office at Summit City. Their office in this city is No. 42, Broad street, and at Summit City, on the south side of B street. John I. Caldwell has been appointed Deputy District Attorney—excellent selection. GEN. THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 1866 SAD ACCIDENT A little son of Robert McClain, aged 4 years, fell into the sand tank of the hydraulic claims of T. Doland & Co., at Moore’s Flat, on Tuesday evening last, and was sucked down the 11 inch iron pipe, a distance of five hundred feet, to the distributor. The pipes failing to give a supply of water it was turned off at the ditch, and the joint of pipe connecting with the distributor taken off to ascertain the cause.
