NEVADA TRANSCRIPT AUGUST 14 & 15, 1866 239
TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1866
BRIDGE BROKEN.—We learn that one of the stringers of Black’s bridge, across the Yuba, gave
way yesterday. The San Juan stage was unable to cross and came back to town. The only road now open
to San Juan is via Lake City.
NEEDS REPAIRING.—The planking on Sacramento street is sadly out of repair. In many places
the planking is worn through and when the rains come the street will be impassable. This thoroughfare
should be improved before Winter. The worn planks might be removed, and those in a less dilapidated
condition may last throughout the Winter

THE OPERA.—The Howson Troupe commence a week’s engagement at the Nevada Theatre
on next Monday evening. The Sacramento Union thus compliments the Troupe and the rendition of
“Maritana,” which will be sung the first evening:
An audience, moderate in numbers but fashionable and appreciative, was gratified beyond
expectation by the first performance of the Howson Troupe. This company of vocalists came to
our shores form Australia without a flourish of trumpets, and as they brought no credentials had
a doubtful reception in the immensely fastidious city of San Francisco. They bring us, however,
