4 JANUARY 7, 8, 9, 11, 1870 GRASS VALLEY UNION COLD.—The weather must be cold at Truckee, since the Zribune remarks: “It still continues cold enough to freeze off the ornamental appendages of a brass monkey.” LOCAL BREVITIES.—John Penrose, of Nevada City, Wednesday last, pick-handled a Chinaman who wanted pay for his (the Chinaman’s) work. .. . SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 1870 MARRIED. At Grass Valley, January 6th, 1870, by Rev. James H. Hubbard, Mr. JOHN ALLEN to Miss FANNIE GREEN. LOCAL BREVITIES.—Dr. Noble Martin has removed to Dutch Flat, where he will practice the healing art. Placer county thus gains from Nevada a good citizen.....The Opera Troupe wall be here in a few days. Only a few seats are left [The opera had been advertised for the previous evening, Friday, January 7, but apparently was delayed.] PUBLIC SCHOOL.—Next Monday morning the public schools of Grass Valley will again commence, with the exception of the High School. Mr. Morse’s health has not been fully re-established and he will not open his school until Monday the 17th instant. SUNDAY, JANUARY 9, 1870 BORN.
