GRASS VALLEY UNION MAY 1 & 2, 1872 103
WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 1872
BORN. In Grass Valley, April 28th, 1872, to RICHARD VINCENT and Wife, a Son.
WITHDRAWN.—W. H. Montgomery is not a candidate any longer for Marshal of Grass Valley.
His withdrawal is due to the fact that friends of his and of S. D. Leavitt met and consulted about the
matter. It was agreed that an arbitration should take place, which did take place. The result was that
Mr. Montgomery declined in favor of Mr. Leavitt.
TOWN ELECTION. Next Monday will be the town election. Two trustees are to be elected, an
Assessor and a Treasurer are to be elected. There are only three candidates for Marshal namely;
Harris, Leavitt and Webster. No candidates for Trustees are announced. The Trustee office is
an important one for the town. There will probably be two candidates for Treasurer, and one for
Assessor.
GOING EAST.—Otur fellow citizen, George W. Dixon Esqr., and his family go east to-day on a
visit to his old home at Rochester N.Y. They propose to take a pleasure jaunt of about two months and
then to return to Grass Valley. We wish them a pleasant journey and a happy reunion on the other
side of the continent.
YOU BET.—The Ellerton Troupe will play at You Bet Saturday evening next. The people there
will enjoy a good performance. The house should be crowded.
BALL TO-NIGHT.—The French ladies of Grass Valley give a Calico Ball to-night at Hamilton
Hall. Preparations for a most pleasant party have been made, and the [attendance] will be and
should be very large.

are very pleasant, and all who have ever attended one of them will be certain to put in an appearance
to-night. All are cordially invited to attend.
