174 JULY 31, 1872 GRASS VALLEY UNION enterprise, or rather ambition, on the part of our young friend Pratt. The Enterprise is well edited and deserves patronage. The mechanical part of the paper can be improved somewhat. We wish every success to the new venture. SHOULDER DISLOCATED.—Yesterday morning Edward Edwards, who lives at Slack’s Ravine, two miles this side of Smarts Ville, had his shoulder dislocated. He telegraphed to this place for a surgeon, and we presume that he has been relieved by this time. Edwards was formerly a resident of Grass Valley, and we believe he has a wife residing here at the present time. TERRIBLE BLASTING ACCIDENT—A FATAL RESULT PROBABLE.—Yesterday about 10 oclock in the morning, Stephen Collins of Rough and Ready, was engaged in the work of blasting boulders. The boulders were in a garden and as they interfered with the cultivation of the soil it was desirable to have them removed. Collins used common black blasting powder for the purpose of breaking the boulders. At the hour named he put off a heavy blast, and as the fuse which he used was defective the explosion of the blast took place almost the instant that fire was applied to the end of the fuse. The result was that Collins had his right arm badly mangled and that pieces of the stone has penetrated the cavity of the abdomen. Dr. Manson was called to the case. Collins was greatly prostrated by his wounds and the surgeon will be compelled to amputate the arm, if the patient rallies sufficiently for the operation to be performed. It is greatly feared that the wounded man will not recover. REPUBLICAN COUNTY CONVENTION.—The Republican County Convention met yesterday at Nevada city, did its business, and then adjourned. . .. We asked two or three members of the Convention to give us a list of delegates, and they referred us to Henry Ivens, who was Secretary. We went to Ivens’ place and found Theodore Klebs selling fine dry goods to some pretty girls. That is all we know about the County Convention. P.S. Since the above was in type we have received the following list of delegates, to-wit: Charles Kent, M. S. Deal, R. H. Belden, Henry Scadden, J. I Sykes, W. M. Eddy, V. G. Bell, D. R. McKellican, E. W. Brown, Pembroke Murray, B. F. Snell and E. O. Tompkins.
