200 SEPTEMBER 4 & 5, 1872 GRASS VALLEY UNION The Marysville papers give no further account of the supposed suicide of M. H. Funston. A telegram received yesterday from Boston announces that Hon. A. B. Dibble had safely arrived at the Hub, and that he was, at the time of writing the telegram, interviewing Dan Holbrook’s brother. A. Delano and wife arrived at home yesterday. Old Block is as happy as any young married man you ever saw. The Liberal delegates from this county are down at Sacramento to-day and will nominate the next Congressman from this district. Among the delegates is the good looking boss of this institution. Hamilton Smith, Jr., Superintendent of the North Bloomfield Gravel Mining Company’s works, offers $3,000 reward for information which will lead to the detection of the person who set fire to the Company’s hoisting works. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1872 THE ACCIDENT AT HUNT’S HILL. —The Transcript of the 4th says: “We alluded briefly to the accident at Hunt’s Hill in the Transcript of yesterday. .. . The names of the parties injured were Jerry Kemball and Patrick Maxie. They were engaged in blasting pipe clay and had put in a charge which did not go off as soon as they expected. They returned to look at it and when they were over the charge it went off. Maxie received the whole force of the charge in the face and neck. Both jaw bones were broken and he was severely cut in the head and face. He died of his injuries on Monday night. Kemball was considerably bruised about the body and sustained a compound fracture of the leg which it may be necessary to amputate. Dr. Hunt was called and dressed the wounds of the injured man. DIED. At Rough and Ready, Sept. 4th, 1872, Mrs. DEZIAH WALLING, wife of L. A. Walling, aged 61 years, 10 months and 25 days, a native of the State of Maine. The funeral will take place to-day (Thursday, at 2 o’clock, P.M., from her late residence, Walling’s Hotel, Rough and Ready. Friends of the family are requested to attend. DEAD.—We announce elsewhere the death, at Rough and Ready, yesterday morning, of Mrs. Deziah Walling, an estimable lady, well known and highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. Mrs. W. was the wife of L. A. Walling, proprietor of Walling’s Hotel, at Rough and Ready, over which she presided as hostess for many years to the satisfaction of the traveling public generally. Having been intimately acquainted with the deceased lady, we extend our sympathy to the family in their loss of an amiable wife and mother. Mrs. W. Was stepmother to J. M. Walling, our present efficient County Recorder, and returned but a few days since from a visit to a daughter, Mrs. Hurd residing at Truckee. Her funeral will take place to-day, from her late residence. TOWN TRUSTEES.—The Board held a regular meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. Present: Wm. H. Benson, S. H. Dille and Wm. George. . .. Mr. A Hooper appeared before the Board and presented a petition from citizens and property holders, asking for the repeal of Ordinance No. 16, said ordinance providing for planking and keeping in repair certain streets in Grass Valley. Whereupon the said Ordinance was duly repealed. Mr. Wm. George stated that he was in receipt of a letter from J. A. Farrell a member of the Board, and that Mr. Farrell therein tendered his resignation as a Trustee. When, on motion of S. H. Dille, Mr. Farrell’s resignation was accepted. Wm. Smith, a member of this Board, having absented himself for more than 30 days without leave, on motion of Wm. George the seat of Wm. Smith asa Trustee of the Town was declared vacant. .. .
