GRASS VALLEY UNION OCTOBER 15, 1872 229 TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1872 BORN. At Grass Valley, October 12th, 1872, to HENRY MORGAN and Wife, a Daughter. At Grass Valley, October 13th, 1872, to OWEN REYNOLDS and Wife, a Son. Colfax Road, October 14th, 1872, to LOUIS WHEELER and Wife, a Son. At Grass Valley, October 14, 1872, to WM. REYNOLDS and Wife, a Daughter. DEATH OF AN OLD GRASS VALLEYAN.—John M. Trewatha. who resided a number of years in Grass Valley and was well and favorably known to a majority of our citizens died at Reno, Nevada, on the 7th of the present month and was buried on the gth. DIED. At Grass Valley, Oct 14th, 1872, DANIEL GRAVES, a native of Maine, aged 57 years and 15 days. Funeral will take place from the residence, on Race street, this afternoon at 4 oclock. At Grass Valley, October 13th, 1872, SCHENCK GLASS, aged 41 years a native of New York. DEATH OF SCHENCK GLASS.—Sunday evening last Schenck Glass, who has been a resident of Grass Valley since about 1852, died at his residence in this place. He leaves a wife and three small children to mourn his loss. The funeral takes place this afternoon under the auspices of Madison Lodge, No. 12 F. and A.M., from the family residence on Bank street. Republican Supervisor Convention. Yesterday the Republicans of the second district, of this county, held a Convention for the purpose of nominating a candidate for Supervisor. The meeting was held at Hamilton Hall, and at 11 o’clock A.M., was called to order. .. . The nomination being in order, Henry Scadden, of Grass Valley, was proposed, and was nominated by acclimation. . . . RAILROAD ACCIDENT.—Sunday night last an accident occurred on the Central Pacific Railroad which resulted fatally to four persons and seriously wounding others. The accident occurred near Truckee in this county. As we understand it the mail car ran off the track and the cars behind piled up on the mail car. The Conductor of the train, Mr. Marshall, was killed, being cut entirely in two above the hips. John Hawk, a citizen of this county, formerly a miner on Deer Creek, near Nevada city, was killed by having his hand crushed. He was Mail Agent on the train. Wells Fargo & Co’s messenger was killed. A brakeman had both legs crushed and is probably fatally injured. Other passengers or employes were hurt. The accident occurred while the train was running on a down grade.
