GRASS VALLEY UNION FEBRUARY 2, 1872 27 of patronage on account of the object to be benefitted, and because of the superior nature of the performance. Particulars will be given in a few days. MINSTRELS.—Saturday night next a minstrel performance will be given at Hamilton Hall, those minstrels come from Marysville, where the members of the company reside. They have achieved great success in their own town, meriting the praise which is usually bestowed on veterans. Moreover the minstrels of who we speak assisted greatly to make the late Orphan Asylum Fair at Marysville a success. Those who attend the concert here will be highly entertained by the music and the musicians and minstrels. WON.—Gale Compton, of this office, won a music box yesterday, at a raffle. The reporter’s desk was serenaded by that box until Gale was requested to remove the box which contained so many sweet sounds. That sort of sound is not desirable. Sweet tasting things are better than sounds. Gov. Booth’s Suit’s beverages, for instance is good. Granger has that last mentioned. REMOVAL.—William Smith Esq., Justice of the Peace has removed his office from Mill street to the corner of Main and Church streets. Justice Smith will be found in the Exchange building just above the Post office. He is prepared to do all kinds of writing, and to attend to all kinds of business for all who call upon him. MUST HAVE RECEIPTS.—Those who sell chickens in Chinatown should give them a receipt, or certificate of the fact. Marshal Getchell is after Chinese chicken stealers and he thinks they are mighty smart. He says, they steal chickens at night and hide them for a few days, and bring to market in daylight. The Marshal says he is determined every Chinaman shall have papers to show title to chickens. The absence of such receipt will be considered by the Marshal prima facia evidence that the Celestial has been after somebody’s hen coop.— Nevada Transcript. If John should invoke constitutions and the bill of rights, the Marshal will have to go back on that decision. Under the latest dispensions the heathen has as much right to hold property as any other man. The Marshal’s ruling will not hold water. GRAND JURY.—Last Wednesday the Grand Jury which is to meet next Monday was drawn, in accordance with law. The following names were drawn: W. R. Coffey, J. H. Bracket, James Buckland, Wm. Briggs, L. A. Walling, Fred. Montgomery, V. G. Bell, P. Brunstetter, T. W. Sigourney, J. A. Lancaster, E. O. Tompkins, Geo. W. Smith, George Carson, A. B. Brady, Wm. Campbell, E. W. Bigelow, B. Derrickson, S. J. Blundell, Wm. Bettis, Frank Beckett, John W. Hinds, J. H. Helm, Joseph G. Dickson, W. H. Benson. RAINFALL.—The rainfall for 24 hours ending at 9 o’clock yesterday morning was 0:09 inch. Total for January 12:65. THE MARYSVILLE MINSTRELS Will give one of their first-class Entertainments, FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY! HAMILTON HALL. On Saturday Evening, Feb’y 3rd. Consisting of SONGS, BURLESQUES & DANCES. The SONGS and MUSIC are new. The Entertainment will be of the most chaste description, and can not fail to please the audience.
