LAND SLIDE.—The Nevada Gazette of yesterday evening says: “We learn that a heavy land
slide occurred on the bank of Murchie Ravine near the Green Mountain tunnel; the land from the
side of the hill came tearing down toward the ravine for about a half a mile, carrying with it logs,
rocks and all other obstructions in its way. It covered up the mouth of the Green Mountain tunnel
and destroyed the blacksmith shop belonging to Wm. Kistle.”
WINNING NUMBERS AT THE CHURCH FAIR.—Last Monday night, at Hamilton Hall several
articles were raffled off for the benefit of St. Patrick [sic] church. Following are the tickets which won

1.0.0.F.—Saturday night last Golden Star Lodge No. 165 I.0.0.F. elected the following officers:

Harris, S. H. Dille and Martin Quick Trustees.
PHRENOLOGY AT NEVADA.—Prof. Fowler is to lecture at the Theater, Nevada, on Friday
evening, Saturday afternoon and evening, of this week, and Sunday and Monday evenings of next.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL.—The Grammar School will not be in session this week. Next Monday
the school will re-open and pupils are requested to be in attendance.

INTERESTING STATISTICS.—From the Nevada Transcript of the 3d, we get the following:
During the past year 178 instruments, location claims or water rights for mining purposes have
been entered upon the books of the County Recorder. The number of claims is not so large,
but the extent of ground covered by each company is much greater than formerly. Under the
present system of hydraulic mining larger claims are required for working.
During the year ending January 1st, 1872, according to the records in the County Clerk’s office,
130 marriage licenses were issued in this county. During the year 1870 only 97 were issued.
During the year 1871 223 suits were commenced in the District Court, and 13 cases were tried
in the County Court.
During the past year the estates of 30 deceased persons have been brought before the Probate
Court of this county for settlement.
DIED. At Grass Valley, January 4th, 1872, EDWIN EDMONDS, a native of Cornwall, England,
aged about 44 years. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2 o’clock, from
Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
FATAL ACCIDENT.—Yesterday morning, about 11 o’clock, a cave occurred in the new shaft of
the Idaho mine, which resulted in the death of Edwin Edmonds. The deceased has been for a number
of years employed in the Idaho, generally working in the shaft. Yesterday morning he was engaged
in removing some temporary timbers in the new shaft, in order to put in permanent supports, when
the cave occurred. Edmonds was in a stooping position as the rock struck him on the left hip. The
