105 JUNE 3, 1877 GRASS VALLEY UNION journal. We say as we do because we have heard Democrats of all pursuits in life, declare that they are going to turn out at the primary election and select delegates to the County Convention, who will nominate only the best kind of men for office. That party having been so thoroughly faithful, as the books of record show, the people will again give support to the Democratic ticket. Personal. J. C. Broderick passed through town yesterday on his way to San Jose, wither he went to see our young lady friend, his daughter Josephine, graduate. The thanks of the members of the African M. E. Church are hereby tendered to the Jubilee Singers and to the general public for the benefit last Friday night, to the church. J. M. Starr of Starrville is visiting his Grass Valley friends. He will be elected Mayor of his town, when the city is incorporated. He says the Watt mine is getting along well, and there is no use of an ordinance against pedro, for the boys up there don’t know how to play the game. TREED.—Nevada Gazette: “Andy Parker informs us that the workmen in the Cold Spring Gravel mine came across a rare curiosity in the shape of a good sized tree, just as it grew. The roots were not reached but it is supposed the tree was on the edge of a deep overflow and was covered before it fell. Trunks of trees are commonly found in ancient river channels, but not in a perpendicular position,” CAUCASIAN REUNION.—The Truckee Republican, is authority for the statement that the Order of Caucasians will have a reunion picnic, somewhere between Nevada city and Grass Valley on the Fourth of next July. Invitations to that end have been sent to the different Camps of the Order throughout this section of the county. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC.—The Picnic of the Sunday Schools, which has been postponed twice on account of unfavorable weather, will take place on next Wednesday. THE JUBILEES.—The Tennessee Jubilee singers left yesterday afternoon for Eureka in Nevada State. Friday night they gave their last concert here, and the net proceeds were given to the A.M.E. Church. We understand that about the sum of $60 was realized by the Church. HAMILTON HALL, POSITIVELY ONE DAY ONLY. Wednesday, June 6th, 1877, TWO PERFORMANCES DAILY!
